It’s hard to imagine that Yola could top her 2019 debut Walk Through The Fire, but her follow up Stand For Myself exceeds all expectations and marks a shift in her sonic approach. Moving beyond the Americana realm, her sophomore effort features elements of disco, symphonic soul and classic pop. With musical arrangements and guidance from The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, but most importantly, Yola’s matchless vocals, Stand For Myself shares vulnerable stories about personal struggle and empowerment. Her explosive singing range reflects Yola’s ability to explore complex emotions in her lyricism.
