What, you think you’ve heard this one before? If you’ve listened to WNXP in past weeks and months and the song you recognize is one of the below tunes released in 2024*, then you are absolutely right. You’ve probably heard it on 91.ONE, your home for music discovery in Music City.
We certainly had our favorite, go-to tracks throughout the year as hosts. Some of these songs appeared on our Top Albums lists broadly and/or locally, others were selections from a full-coverage Record of the Week. A blessed many of these artists we were playing on the radio would also stop by to record in our Sonic Cathedral or perform at one of the WNXP-curated Backyard Sessions at the Bobby Hotel.
Other frequently played songs this year were album standouts that got stuck in our craw in the best way, a tune that could really fit into any set of songs (like that undeniable groover “Mahal” by masked wonders Glass Beams or the synth dance party “No Problems” from Ginger Root). Also fun for this particular list but not eligible for our others at year’s end, of course, are the singles released this year to hype records that will be released in 2025 (Beach Bunny’s “Vertigo” or Annie DiRusso’s “Legs,” as examples).
All that said, the 91-to-1 countdown is a mathematically sound representation of the way our station sounded this year, in all of its glorious diversity in genre and point of origin. Exposing you to new music is core to our mission, after all, and it’s been a real pleasure to execute on that by playing so many great releases in 2024, including these 91 songs:
