Nashville’s music community expressed empathy, anger and frustration in the wake of a deadly school shooting that took the lives of three children and three adult staff members this morning. Our sister station, WPLN, has ongoing coverage of the shooting with reaction from local and state officials. We surveyed Twitter and Instagram for the conversations from Nashville musicians focusing on artists outside of mainstream, commercial country including many featured regularly on WNXP. While the majority railed against the lack of gun laws in the U.S. and recent Tennessee Republican efforts to roll back restrictions even further, some simply expressed heartbreak for their neighbors. Some comments came before identities of the victims and shooter were revealed.
Sick to my soul.

This is my home. These are all our kids, all our kindred. Time to DO something & I don't mean scapegoating our #lgbtqia community. #banassaultweapons #guncontrol NOW #nashville #tennessee @everytown @momsdemand

💜🕊️💜

Man…I don't even feel like promoting no music today. My wife is a teacher, I have friends that are teachers, my aunt works in education. Last night she asked me "what if I get killed at work?" And I had no answer.

26 years ago, a gunman entered
Dunblane Primary School in Scotland,
killing 16 kids and a teacher. The UK
govt responded by enacting tight gun
control legislation. In the 9400+ days
since, there have been a total of O
school shootings in the UK.
4 dead so far in an elementary school shooting in Nashville this am.

Can I ask you, @GovBillLee why you passed permit less carry in 2021? Our children are dying and being shot in school but you’re more worried about drag queens than smart gun laws?
You have blood on your hands https://t.co/OEdMYRkFuI
A school shooting just happened near my sons school. Multiple children dead but let’s make sure that the gunman had his 2nd Amendment rights. Fuck you Bill Lee and fuck the NRA.

I try to stay off here for my mental health but for the love of God! As a mother, I’m pissed the fuck off. Shame on every single politician ok with doing nothing as CHILDREN are getting assassinated on an everyday basis in a place that is supposed to be their safe haven.

You start to think it can’t happen where you live, but this shit is in my neighborhood, and I have children. We have to do something about guns because doing nothing has failed. We must vote out any TN “leader” who has refused to be a part of the solution (that’s a lot of them).

We are devastated by the senseless violence and loss of life today at Covenant School. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, friends, and the entire Covenant School community.

here’s why bill doesn’t do shit about gun policy. It makes bill money! Money is more important to this guy than the lives of the families and children and citizens he vowed to protect. Two faced. Blood on your hands bill. pic.twitter.com/JmyWy6TDit
