On The Record: Widowspeak

Very shortly after the release of their seventh full-length record Roses, creative and life partners Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas — who write, record and perform as the New York group Widowspeak — brought their band and their baby to Nashville on tour.

WNXP got them On The Record after a daytime performance of “Angel Number,” the title track “Roses” and “No Driver” inside our Sonic Cathedral. The core duo of Widowspeak spoke about recording these songs on a Greek island, the long journey of one song in particular (now fully formed on Roses), plus improvising parts they then had to really learn to play each night on the road. Hamilton also provided insight on the symbolism of the rose for the album art and stage design.
