What Where When-sday: The State of Hip Hop at NMAAM

This week for What Where When-sday, we discuss The State of Hip Hop exhibit at the National Museum of African American Music. Taking place Thursday, this free event focuses on the Nashville Scene’s coverage of hip-hop culture in Middle Tennessee over the past 30 years and pays tribute to notable producers such as Street Symphony, Count Bass D, Ron Gilmore, and former WNXP Nashville Artists of the Month AB Eastwood and R.A.P. Ferreria. I went to the museum and spoke with Bryan Pierce, who curated the event, and Noelle Taylor, director of education and exhibitions.

Additional event opportunities this week include the last WNXP Trivia of the year at The Blue Room Thursday night. Former WNXP Nashville Artist of the Month Stephen Sanchez performs two nights at the Ryman on Thursday and Friday. You can check out a feature on Sanchez from back in October here. A Tribute to The Band’s The Last Waltz is happening at the Basement East on Saturday night. Find more events happening this week below and anytime at wnxp.org/events.
