For Mexican singer-songwriter Silvana Estrada, music is in her DNA. As a child of musicians and luthiers, Estrada’s career path seemed inevitable. She picked up the Venezuelan cuatro and began turning her poetry into songs, ultimately crafting her solo debut Marchita. Using her voice as the primary tool, Marchita serves as a confessional of sorts, taking the listener through a healing journey without the use of complicated instrumentation or overwhelming production. The lack of background noise allows Estrada’s storytelling to stay at the forefront alongside her raw delivery of the lyrics.
Watch Silvana Estrada perform “Tristeza,” “La Corriente” and “Te Guardo” live at WNXP’s Sonic Cathedral.
