Perth quintet Psychedelic Porn Crumpets showed up to WNXP on the day of their Brooklyn Bowl Nashville show spirited, if not road-weary to the point of giddiness, having already logged some 80+ hours in the van on their American tour. They admitted it can be a grind but also that U.S. audiences tend to appreciate the band and its live show way more over here than at home. So tour they shall. And each band member piped up about his favorite song they’re playing currently.
Carpe Diem Moonman, released May 16, is the 7th full-length from the Australian rock group led by Jack McEwan. This 10-track collection — leaning heavily on the metal/hard rock sensibilities of the Crumpets but exploring new pockets of sound and song structures, too — precedes another 2025 release they hinted at. Here’s a band that’s prolific in songwriting and motivated to keep creating by controlling the entire means of production, releasing music on their own label called What Reality? Records. Together they design the albums’ cover art, band merchandise, music videos, etc. And they put on one hell of a gig in every city they visit.
