Chiiild Brings Their Synthetic Soul to WNXP

“Genre-bending” is a phrase often overused, but in the case of Montreal’s Chiiild, it is the perfect description. Their new album Better Luck In The Next Life blends R&B, soul, jazz and pop to create an innovative sound that feels modern, but clearly pays homage to music of the past. Led by producer and musician Yonatan “xSDTRK” Ayal, they’ve dubbed their sound “synthetic soul,” taking influence from artists like Marvin Gaye and D’Angelo to Pink Floyd and Tame Impala. Somehow, it works. Chiiild’s music is as expansive as it is familiar.

Watch Chiiild perform “(Running Out Of) Hallelujahs” and “Bon Voyage” off Better Luck In The Next Life live at WNXP’s Sonic Cathedral.
