Vundabar formed and forged their sound in gritty venues in the early 2010s, and it shows. They blend post-punk agitation with surf-guitar and math-rock tendencies, and somehow incorporate both jangle-pop and grunge, to create a uniquely rowdy sound. Their latest album Surgery and Pleasure encapsulates exactly this — an 11-song collection of genre exploration.
About the new record, the trio says, “Surgery and Pleasure is a more mature synthesis of all the stuff we’ve explored before. In a way it feels like a return.”
Watch Vundabar perform “I Got Cracked,” “Spades” and “Beta Fish” live at Grimey’s New & Preloved Music in Nashville, Tenn.
