Last year, Australian singer and rapper Genesis Owusu released his debut album Smiling With No Teeth to critical and fan acclaim alike. With influences ranging from post-punk and folk-pop to modern rap, it’s hard to adequately describe the complexity of Owusu’s musicianship. The sonic intricacy coupled with his layered lyricism (often discretely covering topics like mental health and racism) make Owusu one of the most interesting artists in the current musical landscape. Every creative decision is intentional including his live set, which serves as performance art in and of itself.
