What Where When-sday – Voices of Mississippi – 09/13/2023

This week for What Where Wednesday our special guest is Bill Ramsey, producer for Voices of Mississippi. Happening this Friday in Blair School of Music’s Ingram Hall at Vanderbilt University and based on the Grammy award winning box set of the same name, this multimedia concert event celebrates the music, art, and storytelling traditions of Mississippi and highlights the work of legendary blues musician Otha Turner. The event will feature visuals from William Ferris and musical performances from Sharde Thomas, Luther and Cody Dickinson of North Mississippi All-Stars, and Bobby Rush.

Ramsey joined us to discuss how this event came together, the history of Hill Country and fife and drum blues, and importance of Otha Turner’s music.

More Nashville highlights for the week of September 13 include WNXP Trivia at the Blue Room this Thursday. Rhiannon Giddens at the Ryman, Corinne Bailey Rae at the CMA Theater, and former WNXP Nashville Artist of the Month Be Your Own Pet at The Blue Room on Saturday night.
