What Where When-sday: Independent Bookstore Day

This Saturday is the 12th annual Independent Bookstore Day, celebrating indie bookstores across the country with everything from exclusive books to literary items. Participating stores in Middle Tennessee include Parnassus, Fairytales, The Bookshop, The Grumpy Bookpeddler, and more. But today, we talk with the owners of Novelette, located in East Nashville.

“One thing to consider for support of indie bookstores, while everyone is struggling with finances right now, is to remember that as other kind of institutions will start to be defunded, we will always be a place that you can access information,” Novelette Booksellers co-owner Jordan Tromblee said. “Bookstores are essential for combating the rise of some not-so-good things. When all else fails, you can come here for information, whether that’s accessing local goods, finding community resources — we fill that third space niche that a lot of people are looking for, even to just come hang out and look at pretty things. We give you a space to just kind of be. Bookstores are essential. If libraries start closing, it’s us or Amazon, and I really hope people choose us.”
