What Where When-sday: Frist Arts Fest

This week for What Where When-sday, we discuss the Frist Arts Fest taking place at the Frist Art Museum this Saturday and Sunday. Meagan Rust is The Frist’s Interpretation Director, and shared what they’ve got going on at the moment — the current exhibitions at the museum are uniquely focused on Black, early Latin American and South Asian cultures.

Also at the Frist Arts Fest, Soul’d Creative Collective will pay tribute to 50 years of hip-hop with everything from live music to break dancing. We spoke with Soul’d Creative’s founder Sinclair about the collective’s mission and its goal of preserving hip-hop history by bringing an event like this to Nashville.

Additional live music opportunities this week include Nashville-based singer/songwriter Tré Burt performing songs from his new album Traffic Fiction at The Blue Room on Thursday. (Learn more about the creation of that recent release, a former WNXP Record of the Week, here.) At the same venue the following evening, WNXP Presents A. Savage, the Parquet Courts front man with a new solo EP out now. On Tuesday at The Basement East, WNXP Presents Brooklyn trio Nation of Language, who will perform songs off their new record Strange Disciple (also a previous Record of the Week) and more.
