The Regrettes’ early work earned the band comparisons to the likes of Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney and other riot grrl-influenced acts. But the LA quartet finds themselves channeling their inner Charli XCX on their latest studio effort Further Joy. With influences like Brockhampton, Gwen Stefani and The 1975, the album embraces polished, modern pop elements and blends them with the power-punk vocals and harmonies we’ve come to expect from the band. While Further Joy surely is The Regrettes’ “poppiest” record thus far, it’s also their most experimental and sonically mature work yet.
