Record Of The Week: Reaux Marquez’s ‘No Decoys,’ ‘No Renegades’ and ‘No Roads’

Reaux Marquez is a North Nashville native, rapper, producer, songwriter, who also goes by the playfully agrarian handle Farmer Lando. Over the course of three projects released in late 2020 and early 2021, the EPs No Decoys and No Renegades and the full-length No Roads, he examines the process of recognition, destruction, and cultivation.

Marquez started with poetry and began rapping around 2013, releasing his first project 199x via Soundcloud. The project received critical acclaim that launched his career to larger stages. He went on to remove the project from the internet, in order to go back to his metaphorical garden, study and further hone his craft. After that, Marquez began releasing singles to build a dedicated audience and released his pair of EPs as a prophetic prelude to his first album. His projects are thoughtfully provocative, and similar to a sonic rendition of an August Wilson play, examining an existence that is Black, artistic and aware.
