It’s been nearly two decades since Phosphorescent‘s breakthrough album Pride, and while much has changed in his personal life, his dedication to his craft has never waned. Matthew Houck, the singer-songwriter behind the project, has stayed loyal to his contemporary approach to alt-folk, but has continued to patiently refine his sound throughout his career. His latest album Revelator is no exception. Recorded in his home studio in Nashville, the nine song collection is a bit apocalyptic and definitely a bummer, but his dreamy arrangements bring a sense of lightness to the subject matter, creating a peaceful listening experience.
Watch Houck perform “Revelator,” “The World Is Ending” and “Wide As Heaven” alongside his wife Jo Schornikow live in The Blue Room at Third Man Records.
