Nashville-via-Texas artist Emma Ogier’s handpicked playlist

If you walk into the record store on November 11, in what section will you find Emma Ogier’s debut Fly 1111? Americana? Sure, the Texas transplant signed to legendary Americana label Lost Highway earlier this year and has tracks that fit nicely with that history. Country? Maybe. She’s had songs that dwell on the genre border where labelmate Kacey Musgraves famously plays. Rock? Pop? Sure, why not? Her song “Rocksteady/HeavyMetal” has been one of our favorite singles of the year, duking it out with Phoebe Bridgers similarly styled “Lost Boys.” Ogier has also been co-signed, in a BIG way, by alt-pop artists like Dominic Fike.

So it makes sense that the handpicked playlist she delivered as WNXP’s Nashville Artist of the Month for November ignores genre entirely. Ogier says it features some of her favorite songs by artists and songwriters that inspire her including collaborators like Fike and Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst as well as Nashville friends James Eichmann and Mali Velasquez.
