Nashville Artist girlhouse Premieres New Song, Announces Hometown Show

WNXP is ecstatic to share with you the world premiere of a new song called “Happy Now” by one of our favorite new Nashville artists, girlhouse, the solo project of Lauren Luiz of the folk-pop duo WILD, who recently moved to Nashville from Los Angeles.

Luiz released her debut, self-titled EP earlier this year, a six-song set that rides the line between bedroom pop – that high fi cousin of the lo-fi, DIY scene – and the current 90’s indie rock revival driven by women, both solo performers and leaders of bands like beabadoobee and fellow Nashvillians Soccer Mommy. While the primarily downtempo EP focused on a darker soundscape, the new song “Happy Now” picks up the tempo and the mood.

Luiz says ironically the song “started as an angry poem towards someone in my life that was really emotionally challenging to me,” but it changed shape in the studio. “As we started producing it and I started looking at the lyrics from a different perspective,” Luiz says, “I realized I was projecting everything I hated about myself towards this other person. ‘Happy Now’ is my heart, gladiator screaming ‘Are you not entertained?!’ to my body after doing all the things and following all the people that should, in theory, make me happy, but in the end left me feeling empty.”

Also announced today, an EP Release party at The Basement, Sept. 30, presented by WNXP
