Jo Schornikow’s latest effort Altar captures the essence of both southern Americana and breezy Australian pop – perhaps because it was made while traveling between Melbourne and Nashville. Or maybe it’s because Schornikow has brilliantly captured the musical landscape of both cities and blended them into a discretely sweet sound that feels like the perfect soundtrack for a summer evening in any hemisphere. The synth-driven record is the perfect follow-up to 2019’s Secret Weapon and showcases Schornikow’s ability to move beyond stripped back bedroom folk and into the realm of cheerful indie-pop.
