Record Review: Introducing Aaron Frazer
WNXP’s first Record of the Week for 2021 is the debut solo album by Aaron Frazer. He’s the co-lead singer and drummer for Durand Jones and the Indications. Frazer made the record in Nashville pre-pandemic with producer Dan Auerbach, whose Easy Eye Sound is releasing the record through a deal with indie label Dead Oceans.
The Black Keys frontman pairs the retro soul of Frazer’s past with both more punch and more polish, thanks in part to some studio help from players like Ray Jacildo, the keyboardist known for his work with JD McPherson.
Auerbach’s steady, spare arrangements leave room for Frazer’s Curtis Mayfield-style falsetto while still pushing the pop hooks front and center. Auerbach also co-wrote all the songs on the album, along with some well-known Nashville song-craftsman like Paul Overstreet, Pat McLaughlin and Roger Cook.
You’ll be hearing tracks from Introducing… all week on WNXP including the hit single we’ve been playing since launch “Over You. ”
