We’re back with another edition of What Where Wednesday, keeping you up to date with happenings in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. This week includes everything from Reporting for Duty: A Tribute to Leslie Jordan at the Grand Ole Opry to Weyes Blood at Brooklyn Bowl to a WNXP Presents show with Andy Shauf at the Basement East.
Our special guest this week is Nabil Ayers, president of Beggars Group, the record label umbrella that contains Matador, 4AD and others imprints and is home to The National, Bartees Strange, Adele and many other seminal and emerging artists. He came up playing in indie rock bands like The Long Winters and The Lemons and is the son of jazz legend Roy Ayers. His new book My Life in the Sunshine is about his journey through the music industry, being black in an indie rock space and his complicated relationship with his father. He just announced his book tour stopping at Grimey’s on Wednesday, February 22nd. Drummer and artist Eric Slick (Dr. Dog) will DJ a set at 4:00 p.m. and, at 5:00 p.m., Nashville-based singer/songwriter Allison Russell will conduct a Q&A with Ayers.
You can check out Justin Barney’s interview with Ayers above. For more things to do this week, check out the events below.
