What Where When-sday: Jorts Fest at Eastside Bowl

There are all sorts of shows happening during CMA Fest, of course, but if country is not really your flavor, you can surely stay busy elsewhere. Like seeing partially local group Illiterate Light at The Blue Room on Thursday, or on Saturday at the Third Avenue Block Party hosted by Brooklyn Bowl and Tailgate Brewing, featuring a vintage market, pop-up tattoo parlor, bowling and music right there on 3rd Ave N. Stick around and see indie pop group Tennis playing Brooklyn Bowl that night on their final tour. For more opportunities to get out, visit WNXP.org/events.

This week for What Where When-sday, we discuss the 3rd annual Jorts Fest hosted this year on both Friday and Saturday. This community gathering features 40 bands including big name touring acts Laura Jane Grace, Bass Drum of Death and Illuminati Hotties, plus lots of locals like Nordista Freeze and Dad Hats. Co-founder of Jorts Fest Joe Halby dropped by WNXP to chat about what attendees might expect on the 6th and/or 7th.

Talking about the advent of Jorts Fest, dubbed “a denim-drenched celebration of pop punk,” Halby said that he just wanted to get people together in the growing Nashville scene. The show has since expanded to two days and bigger venues heading northeast up Gallatin Pike, from The East Room to Cobra to now the sprawling Madison space Eastside Bowl. Jorts are not required apparel but certainly encouraged!
