We’re kicking off the busy month of May on this edition of What Where When-sday. You have the legendary Janet Jackson tomorrow night at Bridgestone Arena, Taylor Swift weekend at Nissan Stadium starting Friday, and two WNXP Presents shows, too: Shame on Sunday night at The Basement East, then hip-hop trio Digable Planets at Brooklyn Bowl on Tuesday.
Two more special events are highlighted in interviews on What Where When-sday, starting with the Bobby Hotel’s Backyard Sessions at its rooftop lounge. The hotel celebrates five years in Nashville and the sessions will start this Friday night through September 28, featuring intimate backyard-style performances by local to national artists including The Sewing Club, Joseph, Baby Rose, former WNXP Nashville Artist of the Month Houston Kendrick and many more. The series launches this Friday night with Betty Who and a DJ set from Brandi Cyrus. The Bobby’s Chief Marketing Officer Joel Morales joined me to talk about the mission behind the backyard sessions.
You might close out the weekend with some beautiful choir music on Sunday for Portara Ensemble presents: Dangerous at Riverside Revival. The event features special guests Odessa Settles, Saro Lynch Thomason and former WNXP Nashville Artist of the Month Devon Gilfillian using the power of music to uplift and inspire. Jason Shelton, Artistic Director of Portara Ensemble joined me to discuss the meaning behind the name and how every social movement provides a soundtrack.
