Saturday is 615 Day with a daytime event happening at the National Museum of African American Music, and at night, our subject for this week’s What Where When-sday: 615 Day at The Basement East. WNXP spoke with Gee Slab of Six One Tribe about the event.
Additional event opportunities start tonight with Backyard Sessions curated by WNXP kicking off at the Bobby Hotel rooftop lounge featuring Brother Bird and Medium Build. You can find information on our summer concert series and reserve your spot here. Also tonight, Pom Pom Squad and Blvck Hippie perform at the East Room. Bonnaroo kicks off on Thursday out in Manchester.
There are other events surrounding Juneteenth and Black Music Month, including the National Museum of African American Music’s Bridge to Broadway Block Party with performances from former WNXP Nashville Artists of the Month Daisha McBride, Tim Gent, Houston Kendrick, and headliners Nappy Roots. WNXP will be on location, and the event is hosted by me, Marquis Munson. On Wednesday, the seventh annual Juneteenth615 returns to Fort Negley Park with local food trucks, vendors, and a performance from the Nashville African American Wind Symphony — plus, a Juneteenth fireworks display.
