“Friendly February” continued when we aired a show co-hosted by the duo Hovvdy, Texas natives Will Taylor and Charlie Martin, who are now both rooted in the Donelson neighborhood of Nashville and have a local WNXP Presents show on Wednesday, March 5. They each brought short lists of influential and/or favorite Texan music-makers to the WNXP studio and we played their requests (spanning classic country, indie rock, R&B and hip-hop), plus several listener requests culled from the socials. Remember to make your suggestions for Thematic Static mixtapes each week on Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook or X @WNXPNashville or by leaving a voicemail at our request line, 615-320-9100.
Hovvdy released its sprawling self-titled album (19 tracks!) in 2024 and will play some of those songs for the first time in their adopted hometown at the Basement East show. The last time Will and Charlie were at WNXP, they played selections from Hovvdy’s 2021 True Love release in a stunning Sonic Cathedral session. Yee haw, God bless Texas (transplants).
