Southern Fried Funk: Boulevards Live at WNXP

The phrase “genre-defining” is often overused, but there is no better way to describe the music of Boulevards, the musical moniker of Jamil Rashad. Rashad’s latest full length Electric Cowboy: Born In Carolina Mud blends soulful grooves with country twang and a tinge of indie rock to create a highly-original sound that he describes as “southern fried funk.”

If Rashad’s charisma and creative approach isn’t enough to draw you in, the record features an all-star cast of collaborators as unique as the genres they represent. The album was co-produced by Blake Rhein of Durand Jones & The Indications and Colin Croom of Twin Peaks and features appearances by Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas, Nikki Lane and Macie Stewart of OHMME.

Watch Boulevards perform “How Do Ya Feel,” “Better Off Dead” and “Modern Man” from Electric Cowboy: Born In Carolina Mud live at WNXP’s Sonic Cathedral.
