Pressed in a book on Thank You for Libraries Day

From some of our earliest ages — maybe being read to at home, if we were so blessed, then exploring school libraries (remember the Scholastic Book Fair and the pure jubilation of those days?!) — flipping through real books assists in our development as people. On Thank You for Libraries Day, we celebrated access to books through songs about reading and even some about specific authors and/or works. Your requests, as usual, powered this hour of great music on WNXP.

Stream the show (👇) and consider making requests for future themes via social media @WNXPNashville. Thanks to East Side Bowl for supporting this listener-powered program on WNXP!

Public Library Commute – “25mph”

#ThematicStatic Playlist

The Kinks – “Picture Book

Reading Rainbow” Theme Song

Belle & Sebastian – “Wrapped Up in Books” – This song was requested by Deidre.

Elvis Costello & The Attractions – “Every Day I Write The Book” – Holly and Kate both asked for this one.

Father John Misty – “I’m Writing a Novel” – BookSlinga on Instagram recommended this gem.

Kate Bush – “Wuthering Heights” – Lauryn reminded us of this song named for the 1847 Emily Brontë novel.

The Drums – “Book of Revelation”

10,000 Maniacs – “Hey Jack Kerouac” – Also a request from Book Slinga, this deep cut is an open letter to the Beat Generation author.

Peter Gabriel – “Book of Love” – Hot Sauce and Cerisely each connected on Instagram for this one.

The Shins – “Pressed in a Book”

David Bowie – “1984” – Parker gave us the nudge to play this disco dystopia jam released in 1974, about a George Orwell novel written in 1947, about the year 1984. You follow? 🙂

Phish – “2001”2001: A Space Odyssey was written in concurrence with the 1968 film of the same name. This recognizable sci-fi opus gets the serious funk treatment as a staple in the live Phish canon, like this soundboard audio from a NYC show years ago. (Wouldn’t you know after I broadcast this on Thursday morning Phish played “2001” at Madison Square Garden that very night?! #manifest)
