Areas of musical expertise: ‘90s and early aughts indie rock; classic rock and Motown; some crunchier rock music of the folk, bluegrass and “jam” varieties best enjoyed live
Favorite places in Nashville: Duke’s for a 2:17 sandwich, sub seitan!; Smith & Lentz Brewing for pints and pizza; Peeler Park for secluded dog walks or runs; Percy Priest Lake for summer paddling; Madtown Coffee; all the great club-sized music venues and of course The Mother Church
Favorite shows seen in Nashville: I’ve been blessed by too many life-affirming concerts to count, but what comes is Phish at Ascend Amphitheater with Bob Weir guesting in 2015, Jack White’s small No Name gig at Basement East in 2024, Paul McCartney at Bridgestone in 2010, and anytime Gillian Welch and David Rawlings play The Ryman
After working as a nonprofit professional for a dozen years – at orgs ranging in mission from animal welfare, higher ed, voter engagement and teacher advocacy – Celia Gregory returned to her first love, radio, right at the start of WNXP in late 2020. First broadcasting and chatting with artists as a college DJ in the mid-2000s, then hosting a free-format show on an all-volunteer station from 2017-2020, Celia’s found great joy in now serving as staff to help build Nashville’s NPR Music station, especially as weekday morning host communing and commuting with listeners. She’s been honored by the Nashville Scene as “Best Radio Voice” (2022) and for Thematic Static, the weekly request show dubbed “Best Live Mixtape” (2023). She loves representing Nashville nationally when tapped as a guest on NPR Music’s All Songs Considered and New Music Friday podcasts. When not pressing buttons in-studio, you can often find her out at shows (so many shows, bless Music City!) sipping west coast IPAs, or posted up in WNXP’s Sonic Cathedral performance space talking to music-makers about their craft.
