Hear fast-rising star Lola Young on the record about her album, This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway, in conversation at WNXP the same day she played a sold-out show at Nashville’s EXIT/IN last October. Mind you, this was all before her track “Messy” logged millions more streams thanks to its TikTok moment in the sun. The British artist has since made her American TV debut performing on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon. She told me she’s working on a follow-up LP and eyeing a move to Los Angeles, where she recorded the 2024 release and has made several creative collaborator friends…and crushes.
Also included in our conversation are bits of the songs she recorded especially for radio play on WNXP, stripped-back acoustic versions of album tracks “Messy” and “You Noticed.” Lola Young is one to watch, and certainly to hear, in amazement.
