Self-titling your third LP definitely makes a statement. In MUNA’s case, MUNA serves as a coming out record for many listeners — their first introduction to the LA trio. For others familiar with the group, the album marks a new sonic era. After being dropped from a major label, MUNA finally had the freedom to be and do exactly what they were born to do. The result is high-energy pop music that embraces sex, queerness and joy. The viral single “Silk Chiffon” perfectly encompasses MUNA’s newfound sound with a beyond-catchy hook, anthemic lyrics and ’00s pop-inspired production.
