Hudson Freeman is more than a viral hit. The Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter creates coming-of-age lo-fi folk influenced by artists like Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. While those indie sensibilities can be heard, Freeman’s music has a uniquely current sound. Perhaps that’s why his song “If You Know Me” took the internet by storm. Ironically, his music is shaped by searching for belonging online coupled with his conservative religious upbringing. His ability to eloquently pen songs rooted in navigating complexities and multifaceted emotions proves his artistry will far outlast his virality.
