There’s no denying Buck Meek’s integral role in one of the buzziest contemporary indie bands in the world. But Meek’s solo work pushes his artistry beyond the bounds of Big Thief. His third solo effort Haunted Mountain is arguably Meek’s most ambitious work yet. His sweet, warbly vocals highlight his impressive storytelling and somehow shine through deeply textured musical arrangements complete with big Meek riffs. The contrast shouldn’t work, but his ability to fill space in unique ways is unmatched. His modern approach to country-rock is refreshing and proves why Meek is becoming one of the most revered musicians of his genre.
