Mercury made one of of WNXP’s favorite tracks of the last year, “Heaven,” and she’s finally returned with her first new music of 2026. The Nashville-based artist behind the project, Maddie Kerr, sat down with WNXP’s Jason Moon Wilkins to share exclusive insight into its origins.
Kerr says the title for “Roar of the Heliac Goat” is her spin on a poem she spotted inside a book of sci-fi short stories. She changed it from “Roar of the Heliac Bull” to goat but kept heliac because she loves anything to do with the power that word represents of light and sun. The song’s meaning though, has a darker thread. Kerr says she was trying to capture the feeling that life-changing pain can bring and how it can seem like it might be stuck there, like a billiard ball, forever.
