Nashville Symphony’s Community Concerts is a longstanding free, family-friendly series that is a way to bring the symphony into community parks across Middle Tennessee. It kicks off tonight (June 3) at Historic Rock Castle in Hendersonville followed by stops in Downtown Commons in Clarksville (June 4), Musicians Corner at Centennial Park (June 5) and Two Rivers Mansion (June 6), both in Nashville. The event series visits The Factory in Franklin on June 7 and Cumberland University in Lebanon on June 13.
”We already are your neighbors and your colleagues, it’s just nice to get out of downtown and into the parks, Director of Community Engagement for the Nashville Symphony Kelly Bell said. “It’s a lovely time to gather with your friends and family, maybe grab a picnic blanket and chill and listen to some magical music. We always like to rotate some locations and find new spaces and neighborhoods to connect to. We look every year and strategize how we’re connecting with different areas of Middle Tennessee and seeing where those missing gaps are and seeing how we can connect with that community.”
The music in the program led by conductor Nathan Aspinall will feature John Williams’ “Main Title” from Star Wars, Richard Rodgers’ The Sound of Music Selection for Orchestra, Aaron Copland’s “Hoe-down” from Rodeo and more.
Other happenings this week include CMA Fest beginning on Thursday (June 4) and Jill Scott performs three nights at the Ryman. Friday night (June 5) Big K.R.I.T. is at Eastside Bowl, rocknite.nash featuring Cage the Elephant takes place at JBJ’s on Broadway, and The Wallflowers perform at Brooklyn Bowl. At the same venue on Sunday (June 7), Yebba takes the stage.
