This week is Halloween and there are many ways to celebrate the holiday on Friday from Nightmare at a Juke Joint at Brooklyn Bowl to Spooks and Swing at Rudy’s Jazz Room. Also, Music City Muse presents Muse of the Macabre happening at Faeker’s Theater located in South Nashville. The event will be part film, part concert and part art installation with the goal of celebrating Nashville’s creative culture.
“People more than ever are craving immersive experiences,” Lauren Sublett, creative director of Music City Muse said. “I wanted to create an event that gets a bunch of cool creatives in a room, highlights some incredible musicians and visual artists, and creates something for the audience that is unique that they’ll never experience again. I love film and music, so I picked three silent films. There will be a live band scoring each film and, while the film and the music are going on, there will be two live painters live painting inspired by the films and their work will be revealed at the end.”
Music City Muse is a Nashville-based arts platform connecting music, film and visual art to highlight the creative side of the city that exists outside traditional genres.
“I realized that the way the city is branded, we’re becoming more of a global name and what it’s known for to me,” she said. “It doesn’t capture what are the coolest sides of the city. The incredible musicians, visual artists, writers and activists that make our city cool and why people want to live here. I wanted to highlight jazz, soul, funk, R&B and things that are left out. I just started with this passion of wanting to highlight sides of the city that get lost in the way that it’s marketed to the world. I love creating interesting things. I’ve done several album release shows at my home and I have turned my backyard into a venue. I produce events. I just love art and music.”
Since the Muse of the Macabre event falls on Halloween night, costume are encouraged, but it doesn’t have to be related to the films.
“People can be as weird as they want and immerse themselves as much as they want,” she said. “We just really want this to be a low-key, cool, artsy experience. You feel like your soul got something out of it afterwards and you learn something, but for people that are not just trying to get drunk on Halloween, they just they want a true memory and experience.”
