Find yourself a city to live in, pt. 2

We took another sonic road trip to cities big and small in a reprised theme set featuring songs about places. ICYMI, here was our first adventure bopping around from El Segundo to Cleveland and several points in between.

Get in, losers, to stream the hour (👇🏼) and make future requests on Instagram or Twitter @WNXPNashville!

#ThematicStatic Playlist – 5/18/23

Lupe Fiasco – “Paris, Tokyo”

Hole “Malibu”

Dropkick Murphys – “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” – Enjoy scenes from Boston in the video for the most Boston-sounding song of all time, possibly (used in the 2006 Martin Scorsese film The Departed):

Sufjan Stevens – “Decatur! Or, Round of Applause for Your Stepmother!”

Twen – “Brooklyn Bridge”

Fleet Foxes – “Mykonos” – Danny requested this the first time around and we finally got Greek this week!

SAULT – “London Gangs” – There are a million songs about London I could’ve played, but how about one from the enigmatic and prolific London-based outfit called SAULT?

Bonnie Raitt – “Angel from Montgomery”

Beirut – “Santa Fe”

Marty Robbins – “El Paso” – Lashlee told this darling story via DM on Instagram, wanted to share with the request:

My grandad would drive me to school in the mornings in his giant ’76 Cadillac DeVille and he would play “El Paso” by Marty Robbins on the car’s 8-track. Such a dark song since it ends with him killing the lover of his girl but I still have fond memories of the song.

DM’d testimonial with “El Paso” request

Arctic Monkeys – “Fake Tales of San Francisco”

Satya – “Oakland” – There are lovely Bay Area visuals at the top of the video for this song, which then turns into a cool dinner party, leaving me hungry:

The Monkees – “Last Train to Clarksville”

The Weakerthans – “One Great City!” – “I hate Winnipeg,” sweetly sings John K. Samson, after firing off innumerable reasons to hate the place but ultimately feel at home there.

OK, now you do one about Nashville.
